‘Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble
before you! As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake
before you! For when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the
mountains trembled before you. Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has
perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for

You may be a fan of an ordered life. Of shows and Instagram reels showing everything in its
place as you take a tour of a manicured house or garden. Manicured lives feel safe.
Predictable. But they lack something. Adventure. Risk. Excitement.
In our spiritual lives it can be easy to shy away from the person of the Holy Spirit. Because
we can’t predict where He will lead us. Even as the wind can be a soft, friendly breeze one
moment, and can be a roaring hurricane in another, the wind of the Holy Spirit moves in
unpredictable ways.

He is not tame.
He is not to be contained.
But you know the beauty that results? The wild splendour of the whole earth knowing God’s
name. When the Holy Spirit moves, we see artists released into glorious creativity (Exodus
31:2-5), the weak given miraculous justice-wreaking strength (Judges 16:28-30), and gifting
released into the Church body to edify the Church.

The Spirit does what no man can predict, and yet is the gift of God, our Helper to see His
kingdom come.

As earnest as we can be in seeking Godly vision and submitting to God in prayer, we cannot
do anything of worth or power without the Holy Spirit at work in us. Without inviting Him
into all that we do, we are simply making clever-sounding plans. But with Him, when we
invite Him in to all that we do, when we give the Spirit room to shape and mould our vision,
to show us where we still hold pride or sin in our hearts, to breathe the breath of Heaven
into our prayers, we see heaven move in ways we cannot imagine. (Ephesians 3:20-21)

Look at the start of Acts 2. The disciples were waiting in an upper room, not preparing
evangelistic tracts or dividing up the city into segments for them to walk along. Simply
waiting for the Holy Spirit. And when His power fell on them, the effect was immediate.
Overflow of evangelistic releasing and gifts of tongues saw over 3000 people respond to
the gospel message that day. When we partner with the untamable, when we give him free
reign in our lives, we will see greater, more extravagant miracles than we can possibly
imagine. If we’re praying for 1 million – just imagine what the Spirit can do.
Are you ready for that?

• Is there a situation today that you could look to incorporate the Holy Spirit into?
Consider praying with someone else for their personal needs?
Action:
• Invite the Holy Spirit wherever you are, your living room, train to work etc. Take a
moment to wait on Him, ask him to be with you, and to move through you for other
people. Write down what you hear Him say or what He prompts you to do, so that
you can be intentional in actioning it.
